29/02/2008 - A night of Walliams & Lucas: New Heroes of Comedy

Channel 4 hosted New Heroes of Comedy tonight and I think we can all see this is and was the best comedy show on television. We got the chance to see how Matt and David first met at the National Youth Theatre, all the way through to Rock Profile, and of course Little Britain whilst gavering many awards along the way, including two Baftas. With contributions from David Tennant, Bob Mortimer, Boyd Hilton and many more.

Little Britain USA starts filming next month

New HBO series will film in Port City - Craft services will have to stock up on their supply of tea. HBO confirmed Thursday that the “untitled Little Britain” project will open offices at EUE/Screen Gems Studios on Monday. Full story... Cheers Claire!

28/02/2008 - Walliams reveals shark fear

When Little Britain star David Walliams swims the Straits of Gibraltar next month, it's not the freezing water that will give him goosebumps - but his fear of sharks. Petrified of the predators lurking beneath the waves of his 12-mile charity swim with Olympic rower James Cracknell, the 36-year-old comedian is worried that he'll be a man-eater's catch of the day. James' amazing attempt to set a world record is now underway! James left Dover at around 11am on the 27th February and if conditions are good, he should reach Morocco around the 5th March. More info...

Higson defends 'Little Britain' merchandise

Fast Show star Charlie Higson has hit back at Ricky Gervais for his criticism of Little Britain merchandise. Gervais suggested that stars David Walliams and Matt Lucas had cashed in on the popularity of the BBC sketch show by selling a range of related products. Higson told Teletext: "What the heck? You aren't going to buy an ugly Ricky Gervais drinking mug are you? "If you want to buy a wind-up Vicky Pollard doll, why not?" View source.

26/02/2008 - Walliams on Virgin Radio

Listen here to David being interviewed on Virgin Radio about the upcoming Sport Relief challenge. Everything kicks off from this Thursday! David says "the swim from Gibraltar to Morocco is shorter than when he swam the English Channel but the seas are rougher, colder and much more life in the sea (sharks!)" More info... David is feeling a Walli in LA

David Walliams came down to earth with a bump when he found out he is less popular outside Little Britain. The comic, 36, and TV sidekick Matt Lucas were in LA buying a DVD box set of their BBC show when a shop assistant told them she preferred Channel 4 comedy Peep Show. David told Virgin Radio: “I took the box set to the counter and the woman asked, ‘Do you like British humour?’ I said I did and she said, ‘I love Peep Show but not this one, it is too much!’ “Matt was there too and I was about to go, ‘It’s us’. But I thought better of it.” View source.


25/02/2008 - Walliams inspires Shearer's cycle bid

Alan Shearer said he was inspired to attempt a gruelling 335-mile bike ride in just 36 hours by the heroics of Channel-swimming comedian David Walliams. The ex-England captain and the BBC TV presenter Adrian Chiles were inspired to raise cash for Sport Relief by cycling from Newcastle to London, via the West Midlands, after visiting projects the charity helps in Africa. 24/02/2008 - Track the progress of James' Challenge

Olympic hero James Cracknell plans to row from England to France and cycle 1,000 miles to the tip of Spain. Then he and David will try to swim 14-miles across the Strait Of Gibraltar to Morocco – with highlights on the BBC’s March 14 Sport Relief show. David Walliams had an icy dip with Olympic champion James Cracknell yesterday in preparation for their 1,400-mile Sports Relief challenge at Dorney Lake in Windsor, Berks. Cracknell said: "He's a real pro." View source. Don't forget our page!

Matt and David at the Brits?

Unfortunatly not - Matt and David were to due to present an award (Best British Album) at last night's Brit Awards but Vic Reeves stood in at the last minute. Cheers Geraldine.

Little Britain available on iTunes

Little Britain, Life on Mars and other hit BBC shows have been made available to download from iTunes. The deal makes the Beeb the first UK broadcaster to offer programmes via Apple's digital store. Torchwood and Spooks are among other shows offered for £1.89 an episode. The move could make the corporation millions of pounds - but it may also hit DVD sales. Full story... Cheers Claire.

Stars turn out for Memorial Service

Stars of stage and screen turned out to pay tribute to a South Shields-born actor and director at a memorial service in London. Edward Wilson, 60, lost his three-year battle with cancer at his Los Angeles home earlier this month. He became a mentor to the stars as artistic director of the National Youth Theatre (NYT) from 1986 to 2003, helping launch the careers of the likes of Daniel Craig, Orlando Bloom, Matt Lucas and David Walliams. Lucas and Walliams, who met at the NYT and went on to create the hit comedy series Little Britain, were among those at the service. Full story...

Campaigner's battling to save Carlisle’s Lonsdale cinema hope Harry Potter can wave his magic wand and help restore the building to its 1930s heyday. Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is one of a host of celebrities to lend his backing to the fight to turn the listed building into the city’s arts centre. Walliams Sticks his Oar in

David Walliams is advising Olympic oarsman James Cracknell on his Sport Relief bid to row, cycle and swim from Britain to Africa. James, 35, will row 22 miles across the Channel then cycle more than 1,000 miles through France and Spain and swim 14 miles to Morocco next month. Highlights will be shown on the BBC’s charity broadcast on March 14 — and James is using the trainer who helped Little Britain comic David, 36, swim the Channel for Sport Relief in 2006. A memorial service will be held tomorrow for South Shields-born actor and theatre director Edward Wilson. The 60-year-old lost his three-year battle with cancer at his Los Angeles home earlier this month. 13/02/2008 - Walliams towers over little Kylie at Style Awards

Even though Kylie Minogue took top honours at the Elle Style Awards, she was still overshadowed - by Little Britain star David Walliams. The comedian towered over the 39-year-old pint-sized singer as they posed for pictures at the glamorous ceremony in London on Tuesday night. With over a foot between them, the duo cut an odd figure, but 6ft 3 Walliams managed to lightened the mood with a joke that had Kylie in hysterics. Full story...

BBC comedy chief to receive Lifetime Achievement award

Departing BBC comedy chief Jon Plowman will receive a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming Banff World Television Festival, organizers said Tuesday.
Plowman, who is returning to independent production after producing such award-winning BBC series as "Absolutely Fabulous," "The Office," "Little Britain" and "The Vicar of Dibley," will receive his tribute June 9. Full story...


11/02/2008 - David and Matt offered Pat on the Back

David Walliams and Matt Lucas offered a pat on the back to a 10-year-old South Devon fund-raiser who plunged into the sea at Christmas to boost a Brixham disabled group. He raised more than £1,800 in sponsored pledges for a Braille writer. The efforts of young swimmer Jacques Andrew caught the eye of Channel swimmer David Walliams who raised £1million himself for Sports Relief with his 21-mile swim from France to the UK last summer.
Jacques made his chilly plunge off Breakwater Beach in Brixham to support disabled adults from Access to Community Education at the port's community college, who need a Braille machine. Full story... Photos... Cheers Geraldine!


06/02/2008 - C4 pay tribute to Gervais, Walliams, Lucas and Baron Cohen

Channel 4 is to pay tribute to modern comedy icons, including Ricky Gervais, in a new series of documentaries called New Hero of Comedy. The three-part series will focus in turn on Gervais, comedy duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams and Sacha Baron Cohen, with each 60-minute programme charting the comedians’ rise to fame and their achievements to date. The series begins Friday February 22 at 9pm with the first documentary, a look at Gervais’ journey from his first appearances on radio and television which will be followed by a 60-minute programme on Lucas and Walliams, which will describe how a chance encounter at the National Youth Theatre brought together the two comedians, who struggled for years before landing Little Britain. Banstead-born comedian David Walliams had a cheeky swipe at Beckham for missing a charity bash he was due to host. Walliams and Matt Lucas had a pop at the footballing hero after he failed to turn up at a star-studied event in aid of a Cystic Fibrosis charity. Dressed as his character Lou, Walliams remarked: "It's a shame Becks can't be here tonight," to which partner Matt Lucus as Andy said: "Don't like him. I like Crouch." Full story...
