29/12/2011 - Walliams and Alan Carr are the Royal chappie couple

David Walliams pops on his glad-drags once again — this time to play Kate Middleton to Alan Carr's Prince William.

Alan Carr is joined by good friend and fellow comedian Walliams who teams up with him for a number of sketches poking fun at their famous friends.

One of them being Sir Elton John, who Carr mimics lying in a hospital bed while Walliams holds up a tiny doll that looks like the singer, possibly a reference to the singer adopting a baby son at the end of last year.

And they use exactly the same premise for the Beckhams with Walliams pretending to be footballer David, holding up a doll dressed as Victoria, who is being mimicked by Carr who is pretending he has just had a C-section and given birth to a mini-Posh.

The scenes will be shown during his New Year Specstacular, which will go out on Saturday night on Channel 4, which will run for two hours from 9.30pm. Check out the photos!

Walliams’ charity swim earns him the title of the UK’s celebrity hero of 2011

David Walliams was today crowned the UK’s official celebrity hero of 2011 in the annual poll from virginmedia.com, storming ahead of the nation’s favourite new royal, Kate Middleton.

Having dominated headlines in 2011 for completing a heroic 140 mile swim down the River Thames, raising more than £1 million for Sport Relief and even summoning the energy to rescue a struggling dog along the way, David’s nomination was hardly a surprise. Walliams trumped Britain’s best loved princess Kate Middleton with a whopping 39% of votes. Other celebrities that found favour in the hearts of the British public included singing sensation Jessie J, who didn’t let a mere broken leg get in the way of her summer festival performances, claiming second place with 31% of votes. New privacy campaigner and sometime actor Hugh Grant stormed ahead of the likes of Glastonbury queen Beyoncé and English rose Kate Winslet to claim third place with 15% of votes.

24/12/2011 - Matt Lucas recruits mum for new panel show

Matt Lucas is keeping it in the family for the launch of his new BBC1 panel show.

His partner in crime on The Matt Lucas Awards, which has started filming, is his mother, Diana. The weekly series features the former star of Little Britain awarding trophies, known as Lucases, in a selection of amusing categories.

Matt and his mum will be joined by three celebrity guests in every episode.

The X Factor judge Louis Walsh, writer Germaine Greer and comedy presenter Clive Anderson have been lined up to sit on the panel.

A source tells the Daily Mail, "The idea is to reinvent the panel show. It is a big project for Matt because he's stepping out without David. But he's very excited about introducing his mum to the public."

22/12/2011 - David Walliams signs BGT contract

This time last month, we announced David Walliams would become a judge on ITV's Britain's Got Talent.

The Little Britain star was last night close to signing a contract — worth about £300,000 — to appear alongside Simon Cowell, who is returning to take a full part in the ITV1 show.

Amanda Holden keeps her place on the panel and last night discussions on a judging role for ex-EastEnders star Samantha Womack were going down to the wire.

She may provide maternity cover for pregnant Amanda and if she is a hit with viewers she could be given a permanent spot.

An insider said: "Walliams is a great name to have on board and Cowell coming back is something viewers have demanded.

"Bosses are thrilled with this line-up and feel it will bring back the spark some felt was missing."

13/12/2011 - David Walliams to star in Christmas 'Big Fat Quiz of the Year'

Hosted by Jimmy Carr, the comedy quiz show, which looks back at the most notable moments of the year in news, music, TV and showbiz, is now a regular fixture of Channel 4's Christmas schedule.

The quiz will see some new faces this year, with Jamie Oliver and Eddie Izzard among the celebrities confirmed for the 2011 round-up. Both have never appeared on the show before, nor has comic Miranda Hart.

The new additions will join long-serving team members Jonathan Ross, David Walliams and David Mitchell, with cameo appearances from stars who made their name during the past year expected along the way.

The Big Fat Quiz of the Year will be broadcast on December 27 at 9pm on Channel 4.

09/12/2011 - David Walliams meeting Queen Elizabeth II

David Walliams was delighted to meet Queen Elizabeth II yesterday after the royal took the time to chat to the funnyman about his recent charity swim.

David swam 140 miles (225 kilometres) along England's River Thames in September for the UK's Sport Relief organisation, and he was among the guests at a reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday (08Dec11) for famous adventurers.

Walliams was greeted by the monarch, and he was surprised to learn she had been keeping up-to-date with his challenge, which left the funnyman sick with a stomach bug and nursing a back injury.

Speaking on The One Show tonight, he says, "I got to meet the Queen last night at Buckingham Palace. She invited me to meet her because of the swim.

"It was amazing - I got to chat to her twice. She asked me how I was so she'd followed the whole thing and knew I wasn't well. It was adventurers and explorers... we were all sharing stories." Check out the photo here.

04/12/2011 - New book revealed by David Walliams

David Walliams is releasing a novel about being in a reality programme. 'Superbrat' will be set behind the scenes and detail what you don’t see on TV. Considering his friendships with most former judges on these shows, including Simon Cowell, the book should be pretty accurate. It’s still not quite finished – so David may add more detail if he joins the ITV1 show, Britain's Got Talent. Hopefully the book is out next year.
